Our Prep Process
The most important step of the process. Just like any paint project you do, its all in the prep. Never fall for the DIY solutions like acid wash. This is absolutely the wrong way to prep a surface. We redo failing DIY floors on a regular basis. This only costs you more in the long run. Invest in a coatings professional and get the floor of your dreams the first time.
#1 Grind
Every one of our floors are ground with a walk behind diamond floor grinder. This not only removes any existing coatings, but also levels minor imperfections in the floor surface. Grinding the floor allows us to get to the industry standard CSP (concrete surface profile) required for the type of coating installed. This process of grinding the floor not only creates the correct surface profile, it also opens up the pores in the concrete, allowing our prime coat to soak in and adhere. This creates a bond to the surface of the concrete that it extremely durable and WILL NOT peel.
#2 Patch/Repair
We patch any imperfections in your slab. Spalls, cracks, chips, broken edges, and pits will all be filled and ground smooth. This process leaves a smooth floor ready for our coating process.
#3 Concrete Joints
This is a question we get asked often. “What do you do with the joints in my floor?” Well this is a loaded question. Many people do not realize that concrete is a moving surface. It shrinks and expands with the current temp/humidity levels. Most of the joints you see in your floor are called Expansion or Control joints. These joints give the necessary space for the concrete to move and “control” where the cracks happen when it cures. Nothing will stop a concrete floor from flexing and moving. If a seamless floor is desired, a flexible epoxy joint filler will be used to fill the joint. However, we always recommend leaving the joints open when possible to avoid any movement issues later on.
